ECONYL ® yarn is a revolutionary material that is made from waste materials that would otherwise be destined to end up in landfill. It is a 100% regenerated nylon fiber made from pre and post-consumer nylon waste like fishing nets, carpet flooring and industrial plastic rescued from all over the world. ECONYL ® Regenerated nylon has become increasingly popular over the last several years due to its numerous environmental benefits and its versatility in the fashion industry.
The ECONYL ® Regeneration System starts with rescuing waste otherwise polluting the Earth, like fishing nets, carpet flooring and industrial plastic all over the world. That waste is then sorted and cleaned to recover all of the nylon possible. Through a radical regeneration and purification process, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity and is prosecuted into high quality ECONYL ® nylon yarn. During the manufacturing process of the fabric, the yarn is treated with a special finishing process that makes it resistant to water and fading. This makes fabric made with ECONYL ® nylon an ideal choice for swimwear, activewear, and many other types of clothing.
The environmental benefits of ECONYL ® regenerated nylon are numerous. For every 10,000 tons of ECONYL ® raw material, 70,000 barrels of crude oil are saved and 65,100 tonnes of CO2 eq. It reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 90% compared with the material from oil.
